Accessibility

One of the key aims in redesigning the RCAHMS website has been to make the RCAHMS site accessible and inclusive to all users, regardless of their ability or technology. In building the site we have strived to adhere to the criteria set out by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, aiming for AA conformance.

To improve accessibility and to adhere to currently accepted conventions we have employed the principles of web standards in building the site. We have separated the content, presentation and behaviour of the website and attempted to use valid XHTML throughout. We have avoided the use of Javascript except to provide an enhancement to the user experience.

We have attempted to use a consistent and accessible writing style and avoided the use of technical language and terms. Where this has been necessary, supporting explanation has been provided.

We intend to support access to the RCAHMS website in all modern web browsers. We will endeavour to provide a consistent experience across modern web browsers including (but not restricted to) Safari 3.1, Opera 9.5, Firefox 2 and above and Internet Explorer 7. Whilst access to the website in Internet Explorer 6 is supported, we will not support a consistent visual experience to that experienced in modern web browsers.
