Make More of Mondays

Interested in Scotland’s architecture, archaeology, history or geography?

Want to find out what we hold in our collections and how you can start using them for research?

This year, we’re hosting a series of monthly induction sessions to enable visitors to actively engage with our collections, which comprise over 15 million items relating to Scotland’s places. These sessions are free and open to anyone: whether you’re a new user, an amateur researcher or a student.

The focus of the morning will be the Aerofilms collection of oblique aerial photographs from the period 1919 – 1953. You will be given hands-on training on how to use the new Britain from Above website to search for images of your area or topic of interest and to share and post your own information and images, or create groups.

Each session lasts 2.5 hours and includes:

  • an introduction explaining RCAHMS’ work with examples from the national collection
  • demonstrations of our extensive online resources
  • an introduction to the Aerofilms collection and the Britain from Above project
  • how to use the Britain from Above website
  • the chance to start your own research using the Britain from Above website, collection items and other online resources, with individual access to a PC or laptop

You’ll also get the chance to see our other collections including:

  • historical and modern photographs
  • aerial photographs
  • architects’ original designs and survey drawings
  • sketches and engravings
  • maps, rare books and written documents

The next free introductory session will be held at RCAHMS on:

  • dates to be scheduled

There is a limit of 10 people per session, so complete our online booking form to book your free place.
