Exhibition Highlights

RCAHMS Aerial Photography

Since 1976, RCAHMS has undertaken an annual programme of aerial survey, recording archaeological sites, monuments and buildings throughout Scotland. This showcase illustrates the range and type of monuments photographed. Recent developments to Canmore mean that you can narrow your search to RCAHMS oblique aerial photographs using the Collection picklist. Select 'RCAHMS Aerial Photography' and then choose a year of interest from the Year field.

Photographic copies of all the images in the showcase can be supplied in a variety of formats (print, slide, digital image). Please contact info@rcahms.gov.uk quoting the name of the site or building, the SC number, and giving details of the copy required. A price list of services for photographs, digital images and other copies can be found under the price list page.

Get Adobe ReaderIt generally takes several years to examine and record all the information from the aerial photographs and enquiries about recent photography (post 1997) should be directed to info@rcahms.gov.uk. The maps below show the flightpath coverage in the years 1998-2001 where photography was undertaken. Clicking on each map will open a pdf version which allows more detail to be viewed. Adobe Reader is needed to view these maps and this can be downloaded by clicking on the icon.
