Exhibition Highlights

'Our Dynamic Earth' exhibition centre, Edinburgh

Situated at the edge of Holyrood Park opposite the new Scottish Parliament site, this Millennium Project was opened by HM the Queen in July 1999. Designed by the architect Michael Hopkins and engineered by Ove Arup and Partners, it is built on the site of Younger's Brewery and retains features of the exterior rear wall and turret. The dramatic new structure comprises an arched white fabric canopy with eight piercing masts, covering exhibition space, offices, workshops, conference facilities and car park.

RCAHMS carried out an interior and exterior photographic survey in 1999-2000, the results of which can be accessed through the Canmore database. In addition, the construction of 'Our Dynamic Earth' and the developing environs have been regularly photographed from the air. The images themselves number over 100 and can be consulted in the public search room from Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm.

The images below show a small selection of the photographs taken. Click on an image to view the full-size version. Prints of all images can be obtained by contacting RCAHMS directly at info@rcahms.gov.uk quoting the name of the site or building, the SC number, the size and nature of each image required. A price list of services for photographs, digital images and other copies can be found under the price list page.
