This Art Deco cinema, 1938, was designed by the Leven
based architect Andrew David Haxton (1878-1960). The practice also worked
on fifteen other cinemas between 1914 and 1955, mostly in Fife and West
Lothian. John Alexander (1888-1974) of M Alexander & Sons, Newcastle,
was employed to provide a decorative scheme for the Bathgate interior
that reflected the exotic world of the 'movies'. Alexander was best known
for his work in the North East of England and was the contract designer
for the Empire chain of theatres and cinemas.
