22 July 2009: Inchkeith, Firth of Forth

Images of Inchkeith in the Firth of Forth have recently been made available to the public through our online database Canmore.

A RCAHMS survey team lead by David Easton had the rare opportunity to visit the island earlier this year to record the remains of the military structures as part of the ‘Defence of Britain’ project.

In addition to the many concrete buildings dating from the First and Second World Wars, Inchkeith contains a Stevenson Lighthouse built in 1803, and the remains of 16th century fortifications created when a French garrison was stationed on the island.
