2. Where possible, protect and promote the archaeology of their area
3. Maintain Sites and Monuments Records containing details of all recorded archaeological features within their area - from earliest times to the present century
4. Provide information, consultation and advisory services for the public on archaeological matters especially the conservation, management and interpretation of archaeological and historic sites, monuments and landscapes
5. monitor all planning (including Permitted Development), forestry, and Countryside Premium Scheme proposals for possible archaeological implications
6. Monitor archaeological fieldwork carried out within their area to ensure that quality standards are maintained
7. Liaise with the RCAHMS, Historic Scotland, The National Museums of Scotland, The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), The Council for Scottish Archaeology and other national and international archaeological organisations
