Manuscript Collections

RCAHMS large collection of manuscript material is mostly unpublished and includes:

• Historical, archaeological and architectural research notes often by individuals including Ian G Lindsay, Thomas Ross, J Kenneth St Joseph
• RCAHMS field investigators’ notebooks, containing detailed notes, descriptions and sketches of buildings and monuments dating from 1908 to recent years
• Archaeological reports from excavations, surveys, and research
• Archaeological documentary site archives, including site notebooks, context cards, small finds cards and correspondence
• Inventories of kirk furnishings compiled by the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies
• Graveyard surveys
• Architects’ office project files
• Research files, index cards, correspondence and draft reports from the Scottish Burgh Survey up to 1984
• Research files from the Scottish Industrial Archaeological Survey
