New Values for Scotland’s Heritage

13 March 2009

In conclusion to the Centenary year celebrations, RCAHMS hosted a seminar at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.  The seminar explored how the built heritage of Scotland is valued, and particularly how the ways in which it is valued by the public have challenged and informed the professional sector.

Presentations looked at the context and impact of RCAHMS Treasured Places and Scotland’s Rural Past projects; assessed the response to Scotland’s People; and looked forward to the potential of Scotland’s Places.  All of these projects actively engage with the public both in person and online, seeking out their contributions, and providing a vivid picture of how the heritage of Scotland is valued today.

Speakers included Malcolm Cooper, Chief Inspector of Historic Scotland; George MacKenzie, Keeper of the National Archives of Scotland; Bruce Gittings, Department of Geography, University of Edinburgh; Dr Sian Bayne, Department of Higher and Community Education, University of Edinburgh; and Diana Murray, Chief Executive of RCAHMS.
