Andrew Carnegie’s Legacy

In the UK and Ireland 660 libraries were funded by Andrew Carnegie or by the Carnegie UK Trust. We’re working with the Carnegie UK Trust to enhance our online collection of Carnegie places in Scotland and we’d like your help.

Is there anything in your community which owes something to Andrew Carnegie or one of the Trusts he set up? Do you have a local Carnegie library or a Carnegie playing field? Did Carnegie or the Carnegie UK Trust help pay for your church organ? Does your village hall owe something to the Carnegie legacy?

You can help to improve our records in three ways:

  • suggest Carnegie sites that aren’t currently on our list
  • add information and memories to these records
  • upload old and new images to these records

How to suggest a new site

Email us at info@rcahms.gov.uk with these details:

  • Where is the site? We need a grid reference, address or postcode
  • What type of site is it, for example is it a library?
  • Where can we find out more online about the Carnegie connection?

How to upload images and information

Download the simple MyCanmore guidelines to find out how you can contribute to our online record.
