Buildings at Risk Register
1 April 2011
Historic Scotland has appointed RCAHMS to maintain the Buildings at Risk Register (BARR) in Scotland. The Register is an online database that details listed buildings and other important buildings within conservation areas that have fallen into disrepair, are unoccupied or faced with demolition.
As of 1 April 2011, RCAHMS will take over the contract to maintain the Register from the Scottish Civic Trust, who have operated it since 1990. RCAHMS and Historic Scotland look forward to building on the Scottish Civic Trust’s excellent work in maintaining and developing the Register over the last 20 years.
RCAHMS and Historic Scotland will work with local authorities and the wider built environment sector to ensure that the Register continues to provide reliable data for all users, from informing the National Performance Framework on built heritage to acting as a valuable resource for initiatives aimed at helping to reduce the number of listed and historic buildings at risk.
The current BARR team – Alex Adamson, Neil Adams and Isabel Fry – are moving to RCAHMS from the Scottish Civic Trust, and can be contacted as follows:
