Make More of Mondays
Want to find out what we hold in our collections and how you can start using them for research?
This year, we’re hosting a series of monthly induction sessions to enable visitors to actively engage with our collections, which comprise over 15 million items relating to Scotland’s places. Throughout the year we’ll be following these up by offering more detailed sessions on specific subjects and collections.
These sessions are free and open to anyone: whether you’re a new user, an amateur researcher or a student, you will be guided through the wealth of resources available in our Search Room and online. You’ll build up your knowledge of what we have, you’ll learn how to find and use our material, and you’ll be able to start work on a research project of your own.
Each session lasts two hours and includes:
- an introduction explaining the role and work of RCAHMS
- practical guidance on how to research using our archive and resources
- an exclusive tour of historical items in our Print Room
- an orientation tour of the Search Room
- demonstrations of our extensive online resources
- the chance to start your own research using collection items and online resources, with individual access to a PC or laptop
You’ll see a range of items from our collections, including:
- historical and modern photographs
- aerial photographs
- architects’ original designs and survey drawings
- sketches and engravings
- maps, rare books and written documents
The first three introductory sessions will be held on:
-
Monday 27 February at 2pm - FULL
-
Monday 26 March at 12pm - FULL
-
Monday 30 April at 10am - FULL
There is a limit of 10 people per session, so complete our online Enquiry Form to book your free place.
