The Future of Archaeological Archives

In recent years a number of concerns surrounding archaeological archives have emerged across the UK, from storage problems to access and the challenges presented by digital material.

This seminar, held at the RCAHMS premises in Edinburgh, will examine the current issues and explore ways forward for archives, from creation through to deposit and long-term preservation. It will also consider how standards and new procedures can assist in these processes, and how access to archives can be improved and expanded - both to meet the needs of the professional sector and the interest of the wider community.

Speakers include Caroline Norman of Headland Archaeology, Dr Sally Foster of the University of Aberdeen, Dr Ellen McAdam of Glasgow Museums, Duncan Brown of English Heritage, and, from RCAHMS, Emily Nimmo, Dr Iain Fraser and Kirsty Lingstadt.

The seminar will be held on Friday 8 June 2012, from 10am to 3.45pm.
