RCAHMS Needs You
26 October 2010
RCAHMS are offering work-based training in the documentation and dissemination of archive and museum collections.
A total of 18 one-year placements – six each year over the next three years – are available at RCAHMS, with a specific aim to attract people currently under-represented in the heritage workforce. The traineeships will provide the opportunity to learn essential and transferable sectoral skills, including how to document, conserve and digitise collection items, and how to develop communications and education programmes which inspire learning, participation and enjoyment. The placements will also involve an undergraduate-level distance learning module with the University of Dundee.
Funded by a grant award of £484,000, the RCAHMS traineeships are part of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s ‘Skills for the Future’ programme, an initiative which is investing £17m in 54 projects throughout the UK. The funding will deliver 808 placements in total, adding up to 780 years’ worth of training opportunities for people seeking a career in heritage. It is not only supporting traditional conservation training but also a wide variety of more contemporary skills, such as managing volunteers and using social media to get people involved in heritage, helping to reinvigorate and broaden the appeal of the heritage industry to job-seekers.
See our Jobs section for more details and information on how to apply.
