Scotland’s National Collections online
3 February 2009Images from Scotland’s unique national collections are now available for the first time on a new website, SCOTLANDSIMAGES.COM. High resolution images, many of which are previously unpublished, can now be downloaded for licensed use from the collections of RCAHMS, The National Archives of Scotland, The National Library of Scotland, National Museums Scotland and The National Trust for Scotland.
Linda Fabiani, Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, said: “The year of Homecoming celebrates Scotland's great contributions to the world and I’m delighted that our unique National Collections which capture so much of our nation’s story are now available online. The new website, SCOTLANDSIMAGES.COM, features images ranging from people, places and objects, to maps, plans, drawings and iconic documents and offers a remarkable illustration of the life, history and culture of Scotland and the wider world.”
George Mackenzie, Keeper of the Records of Scotland explains: “Scotland has a wonderfully rich, well maintained and well-researched set of national collections. Now, for the very first time, we have a one-stop-shop for commercial users to access images of these outstanding treasures. SCOTLANDSIMAGES.COM offers a streamlined service with increased search capability to picture editors, publishers and designers.”
SCOTLANDSIMAGES.COM showcases images of Scotland's finest national treasures including Mary Queen of Scots’ jewellery, original manuscripts by Robert Burns, the Declaration of Arbroath, Dolly the Sheep and the National Covenant.
