Search Room Inductions For Students
On Mondays our Search Room is now dedicated to pre-booked group visits, and we are very keen to encourage higher and further education student groups at an early stage in their studies.
An induction session can last between 1 to 1.5 hours and comprises:
- a brief introduction to our work
- examples from our collections tailored to your course, subject or area of interest
- an orientation tour of the Search Room and Print Room
- demos of our range of online resources and how to order images or data
- time for students to carry out their own research
Our collections contain over 15 million items on Scotland’s places, covering buildings, archaeology, industry and maritime sites. Our resources comprise historic and modern photographs, aerial photographs, survey drawings, architects’ plans, maps, books and documents. These will be relevant to a wide range of courses including:
- Architecture and conservation
- Archaeology
- History
- Geography
- Planning
- Engineering
If you are a course coordinator and would like to book a Monday group visit, please contact philip.graham@rcahms.gov.uk or call +44 (0)131 651 6788. Student group visits can also be arranged Tuesday to Friday but with a maximum limit of 14 people.
