Search Room Photograph Boxes
Our public Search Room is open from Tuesday to Friday from 9:30am to 5pm.
On open access in our Search Room are:
- over 700,000 boxed photographic prints
- over 24,000 library books
- over 60 series of journals and periodicals
- over 3,700 maps
Our green photograph boxes contain a wealth of images of Scotland’s places that are freely available to browse without an appointment. They include historic and modern photographs, copies of drawings and sketches, excavation photographs and drawings, and aerial views from across Scotland's past and present.
There are already over 150,000 digital images available in the Canmore database, and our digitisation programme aims to increase the number of green box items which are available to our users online. To highlight this programme, our New Images gallery brings you examples of the most interesting items we've recently made available as well as themed galleries in our Collection Highlights section - but remember, we have many more just waiting to be discovered if you visit our Search Room.
All images can be purchased as digital images, photographic prints or poster prints by clicking the Order Image link below each image.
