Threatened Buildings Survey

RCAHMS has a statutorily defined duty to record listed buildings and buildings in conservation areas for which permission to demolish or part-demolish has been granted.

We also record buildings, structures and sites prior to significant alteration or conversion, and in emergencies where they face imminent risks such as fire or collapse.

You can let us know about a threatened building by using these downloadable forms:

  • LPA1 — For planning authorities to notify us in advance of proposals for works of demolition and/or significant alterations to a building of historic or architectural significance
  • LBC1 — For recipients of listed building consent or conservation area consent to inform us that permission has been granted for demolition works. RCAHMS has three months from the date of consent to undertake recording.
  • Notification Form — For organisations or individuals to inform us of buildings where there is a perceived need for recording. This can be any building or site of historic or architectural significance. RCAHMS will not automatically undertake a survey — we consider all notifications on a case-by-case basis.

RCAHMS staturory duty is defined in Section 7(2)(B)(C) and Section 66(3) Planning (Listed Buildings And Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997.
